Dr Deepthi Lavu
RCGP GP Registrar Co-Chair
Dr Deepthi Lavu is an academic GP registrar at the very end of her training in General Practice in Exeter, UK. She is the current RCGP Registrar co-chair, along with Dr Akram Hussain, and represents GP registrars at the RCGP council. She also represents GP Registrars at the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Resident Doctor’s committee.
She previously trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and alongside her MRCOG undertook a master’s in science at Keele University. She was the co-inventor of the PreMentricS smartphone app used as a clinician’s aid for diagnosing premenstrual syndrome, was an executive board member of the British Society of Biopsychosocial Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was an editorial board member on StratOG, RCOG’s online teaching platform.
She is the Southwest Central Leadership scholar and in her capacity as a GP registrar, she supports regional peers preparing for the AKT and SCA exams. Her keen interest in education reflects in the book chapters and diploma modules on Women’s health that she authored.
Dr Lavu is passionate about reducing health inequalities and her current research work at the University of Exeter investigates sex and ethnic inequalities in primary care cancer referrals. She was the recipient of the Sanofi green award 2024 along with Dr Vincent Simpson for their work on reusable insulin pen prescribing.
