SUSTAINABILITY

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and we all must do our part to significantly reduce the carbon emissions which causes it.

The RCGP strives to reduce the energy and resources we consume to minimise our impact on the environment and promote wider social and economic benefits. Hosting the Vision for the Future of General Practice 2024 as a virtual conference incorporates environmentally friendly practices, reduces resource consumption, and minimises the overall impact on the environment.

Please see below for more information on how we are achieving sustainability

Reduced Travel Emissions Eliminating the need for people who travel, removing the carbon footprint associated with transportation.
Energy Efficiency Hosting a virtual conference typically requires far less energy compared to an in person conference
Digital Communication Utilising digital communication means no printed materials.
Waste Reduction Physical materials such as banners, badges, and promotional items will not be used. These items often end up as waste.
Accessibility & Inclusivity The conference will provide an opportunity for greater inclusivity as it is accessible to GP's from across the country without the need for long-distance (and in some cases emission-heavy) travel. This format also enables us to offer free access to members. This inclusivity can contribute to a more sustainable participation and social mobility.
Recording & Reuse Where possible, sessions will be available on demand up to three mnths post event. This enables attendees to access content later. This not only provides convenience but also reduces the demand for additional live streaming and associated energy consumption.
