
Professor Philip Evans
Academic GP, and National Associate Director of Health and Care Research
Phil Evans is an academic GP, and National Associate Director of Health and Care Research in the NIHR Research Delivery Network Coordinating Centre (RDN CC), as well as Professor of Primary Care Research, APEx, Primary care, University of Exeter and Research Consultant, St Leonard’s Research Practice, Exeter. He was until his recent retirement, 31 years as a GP partner and then senior partner in St Leonard’s Practice, Exeter. He was previously the NIHR CRN Deputy Medical Director. During the COVID-19 pandemic he was Deputy Chair of the NIHR Urgent Public Health (UPH) Group and recently led the NIHR CRN engagement with the four-nation PRINCIPLE and PANORAMIC studies of community-based COVID-19 treatment. He has 180 + publications and almost 30 years’ experience of conducting academic primary care research and leading primary care networks, both locally and nationally. For the last four years he has been leading the NIHR CRN Primary Care Research Strategy and Programme. His research interests include researching relational continuity of care in general practice.
