Anwar qualified as a GP but after spending time in genetics, he realised his niche was in primary care given its emphasis on relationship-based care promoting continuity of care in the community. As well as his role as a GP Trainer/Appraiser, he is heavily involved in assessment both in UK, as MRCGP Examiner and Assessment lead for I&R Scheme, and Internationally, as Medical Director for MRCGP(INT) and Honorary Professor of Medical Education in Samarkand and University of East London; he has co-edited a book and published a few papers on assessment. His senior roles in commissioning, Health Education England, NHS Resolution and Assessment are driven by a passion to promote patient safety through education, assessment and promoting safe systems around hard-working professionals on the frontline.
